Kurt Jooss gained world-wide fame as an outstanding choreographer with his anti-war ballet “The Green Table”. Three of his other masterpieces are unfortunately not nearly as famous: “Pavane on an Infanta's Death”, “Big City”, and “A Ball in Old Vienna”.

The film presents the only complete TV stage recordings of “Pavane” and “Big City”. Anna Markard, Jooss' daughter, rehearsed these two ballets exclusively for this production true to her father's original choreography with the Ballet de l'Opéra National du Rhin.
Historical footage, “A Ball in Old Vienna”, performed by the famous “Ballets Jooss” and recorded in 1935 by amateur filmmaker Kurt Jooss himself, forms the link between the two new productions.
